Transmural variations of vasodilator-induced changes of myocardial oxygenation vary with age and the presence of diabetes mellitus type II: a study using oxygen-sensitive cardiovascular MR

چکیده
Background Diabetes is a chronic disease process, which precedes the development of microvascular dysfunction, detectable as circumferential, subendocardial perfusion deficits on imaging. The full effect of this chronic disease process on myocardial oxygenation is, however, unknown. Studies using oxygen-sensitive Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (OS-CMR) have shown that pharmacologically induced vasodilation leads to an increase of myocardial oxygenation. We hypothesized that in patients with type 2 diabetes, there is an impaired increase of myocardial oxygenation.

Impact of Intermittent Apnea on Myocardial Tissue Oxygenation—A Study Using Oxygenation-Sensitive Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance
BACKGROUND Carbon dioxide (CO(2)) is a recognized vasodilator of myocardial blood vessels that leads to changes in myocardial oxygenation through the recruitment of the coronary flow reserve. Yet, it is unknown whether changes of carbon dioxide induced by breathing maneuvers can be used to modify coronary blood flow and thus myocardial oxygenation. Oxygenation-sensitive cardiovascular magnetic ...
متن کاملOxygenation-sensitive CMR for assessing vasodilator-induced changes of myocardial oxygenation
BACKGROUND As myocardial oxygenation may serve as a marker for ischemia and microvascular dysfunction, it could be clinically useful to have a non-invasive measure of changes in myocardial oxygenation. However, the impact of induced blood flow changes on oxygenation is not well understood. We used oxygenation-sensitive CMR to assess the relations between myocardial oxygenation and coronary sinu...
متن کاملEndothelial Vasodilator Angiotensin Receptors are Changing in Mice with Ageing
Background: The vascular function of Angiotensin II-type-2 receptors in adults is controversial. We sought their location and function in mouse aortic rings at young and old mice. Materials and Methods: Male C57Bl mice (aged 4 and 14 months) were killed by CO2. The descending thoracic aorta was cleaned and dissected into rings. Aortic rings were mounted in Krebs’ solution at 37 °C an...
متن کاملImpact of Age on Risk Factors and Clinical Manifestations of Acute Coronary Syndrome: Observations From the Coronary Care Unit of Sulaimani, Iraq
Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI ) are common types of acute coronary syndrome which are associated with the risk factors of age, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Objective: The present study aimed to examine the effects of age on the risk factors and clinical sym...

ABSTRACT To clarify the prevalence and associated risk factors of silent transmural myocardial infarction (SMI), we examined a consecutive series of 1390 patients (mean age 56.6 years, male 70.9 percent, female 29.1 percent) with diagnosis of transmural myocardial infarction (MI) by resting ECG (with or without previous history of MI).during a period of six years in a cardiovascular private cl...
